A browser-based video studio compared with a tool that does nothing but transcripts.
Try JotVox free →VEED is a browser video editor that has grown into a broad creative suite. It covers editing, cutting, converting and compressing video, an auto subtitle generator and subtitle translation, plus AI video generation, avatars, lip sync, voice cloning, image tools and ad templates. There is a free tier with export limits, and paid subscription plans above it.
JotVox has one job. Paste a link from one of 19+ platforms or upload a file, and you get a transcript: existing captions free with no sign-up, or AI transcription at 98%+ accuracy across 99 languages for one credit. Exports are TXT, SRT, VTT and MP3.
Subtitles are the overlap. Everything else is separate.

VEED is aimed at people producing content: social clips, ads, tutorials, talking-head videos. Auto subtitles exist to make those videos perform better, styled and burnt in where needed.
JotVox is aimed at people consuming it. The output is a text file, not a finished video. If nothing you do ends in a rendered MP4, an editor is more tool than you need.
Both can put you in reach of a subtitle file, but from opposite directions. VEED generates subtitles for footage you upload and lets you style and position them on the timeline.
JotVox generates SRT or VTT from a published link or an uploaded file, with no styling. Our guide to SRT, VTT and TXT covers which format each situation wants.
If you make the videos, use VEED. Styled burnt-in captions, trimming, resizing for different platforms and exporting a finished file are all things JotVox cannot do at any price.
It is also the better pick if you want creation and editing in one browser tab. AI video generation, avatars, voice cloning and ad templates sit alongside the editor, which suits marketers producing volume without a studio.
No. VEED is a video editor and creation suite; JotVox produces transcripts. They only meet on subtitles, and even there VEED works on footage you upload while JotVox works from published links. If you edit or generate video, JotVox does not replace any part of that.
With JotVox, yes. Paste the link and it grabs the existing caption track free, with no account, or transcribes the audio with AI if there are no captions. You then export SRT or VTT. An editor like VEED needs the media file imported into a project first.
No. JotVox exports plain SRT and VTT files with timings and text. Styling, positioning, fonts and burning captions into the video are editor features, and VEED handles them. Many people generate the SRT in one tool and bring it into an editor for the visual work.
Probably both, for different tasks. VEED is the right tool for producing and captioning the clips you publish. JotVox is the right tool for pulling transcripts out of competitor videos, TikToks, podcasts and Chinese platform content you are researching rather than editing.
Pick VEED if you produce video. Editing, styled subtitles and AI creation tools are a workflow a transcript tool cannot stand in for.
Pick JotVox if you only need the words from video someone else published, delivered as TXT, SRT, VTT or MP3 from a pasted link.
